The coronavirus is at its peak throughout Michigan and the nation, but there are many people who have already been infected, have gone through the illness and quarantine period, and have now come out the other side. If this describes you or a family member, we can’t stress enough the importance of a deep clean of your home.
You may have recovered from COVID-19 but the virus can linger on surfaces for up to nine days before dying. A deep clean of your carpets, upholstery, tile and air ducts can ensure no evidence of your illness remains, thereby protecting yourself and your family members going forward.
Benefits of a Deep Clean
Surface cleaning is important on a daily basis, but a deep clean after going through such a destructive virus as COVID-19 is also imperative. Here at 1st Class Carpet Cleaning & Restoration Services, we offer TruSteam carpet cleaning services that sanitize your carpets and kill germs, including the coronavirus. That’s because the water is heated to more than 200 degrees F, enough to kill COVID-19.
Our company uses the Butler System, which is built right into our vans. The system uses the van’s own V-8 motor, providing a steady stream of power to keep the water temperature at a constant 200 degrees Fahrenheit with a consistent suction.
Your carpet is the largest filtration system in your home and should be cleaned regularly but especially after you have recovered from a viral outbreak. Even after you become sick, germs can linger on surfaces for up to nine days.
Your duct system should also undergo a deep cleaning. The main mode of transmission of the coronavirus is through respiratory droplets, which can travel several feet from someone who has been coughing or sneezing. Those residual contaminants can travel through your HVAC system and contribute to the spread of this and other airborne viruses.
We use the RamAir Air Duct Cleaning system, which helps remove allergens, dust particles, harmful chemicals and even viruses.
Benefits of Everyday Surface Cleaning
On a daily level, don’t let your guard down when it comes to cleaning. Uninfected persons in your household can still become infected if precautions aren’t taken. It’s very important to continue to disinfect high-touch surfaces every day, including:
- Door knobs
- Stair rails
- Light switches
- Drawer handles
- TV remotes
- Refrigerator and microwave oven doors
- Counters
- Toilets
- Faucets
- Desks
- Keyboards
- Phones
- Bedside tables
- Night stands
Wipe down or spray all high-touch surfaces with disinfectants. If you don’t have spray or wipes, soapy water will do just fine. The CDC says diluted household bleach will kill coronavirus, but keep in mind it could damage some surfaces. Mix five tablespoons of bleach with a gallon of water, or four teaspoons of bleach per quart. The CDC also advises that alcohol solutions of at least 70% alcohol will also work.
Don’t mix ammonia and bleach, or household cleaners containing the chemicals, which can create a poisonous gas. If you have them, wear disposable gloves.
When it comes to laundering bedding and clothing, launder items according to the manufacturer’s instructions, preferably on the warmest setting possible. Wash hands after handling dirty laundry, and don’t shake out dirty laundry in order to minimize the possibility of dispersing the coronavirus through the air. Don’t forget to clean and disinfect clothes hampers too.
Staying safe at home after recovering from COVID-19 will increase your chances of remaining healthy and ensuring the health of your other family members.
